13-year-old Eben Barnes, an eighth grade Boy Scout from Royse City, Texas, is aiming toward an Eagle rank as he assists in saving the lives of dogs in Dallas.
Barnes created and distributed 20 dog houses to Dallas Animal Services this week to be provided to families who need them.
“I really enjoy being around dogs. I found out that they can be removed from their homes because they don’t have a shelter. So, I wanted to do a project for that so that dogs wouldn’t be removed,” Eben stated.
Eben contacted Det. Michael Bono of the Dallas Police Department’s animal cruelty unit to determine how he could assist animals in a city where there are too many animals occupying the shelters.
Because there are more dogs in shelters than there are in kennels, many shelters must euthanize pets that have a possibility of being adopted.
Thus, Eben researched how to build a doghouse. However, the first doghouse broke on the first try. He then reached out to companies for donations for the materials that were necessary.
After he acquired the items, he and his troop began to get started.
His wish is for others to now follow his path.
Eben has finished all his requirements to become an honorable Eagle Scout. Next, his board of review must validate his work.
Cool but dog houses enable and encourage peoolle to leave their dogs outside. Dogs are FAMILY AND SHOULD BE INSIDE!!! His time could be spent better elsewhere
