7 Other Officers May Face Consequences In Tyre Nichols Case

After Tyre Nichols’ death, seven more officers with the Memphis Police Department are expected to be disciplined. This would make 13 people that have been scrutinized for their actions related to the attack.

“There are seven additional officers who are under investigation. The administrative investigation is still ongoing, and so this information is subject to change. The administrative investigation is solely to determine if city policies were violated and what disciplinary action should be taken. The criminal investigation is being handled by the TBI (Tennessee Bureau of Investigation) and DA.”

On January 7, Nichols, a father and an employee of FedEx who resided in Memphis, had been pulled over for a traffic stop.

As seen in recordings, Nichols started to run on foot prior to officers catching and beating him at an intersection that was close by.

Five officers were charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct, and official oppression. On Jan. 8, at least two other officers were relieved of their duties as an investigation started. On Feb. 3, one of those two officers was terminated. The other is said to be one of the seven that will possibly be disciplined.

It has been reported that a review of the implicated officers in the Nichols’ matter didn’t show warning signs connected to the conduct in their records when they joined the Memphis Police Department’s now-disbanned SCORPION Unit. Records also show that there had been a shortage of supervisors inside of the police department even though officers were provided “exceptional” and continuous trainings.
