On Sunday afternoon, chaos broke out when two Pop Warner football teams competed against each other at Oakland Technical High School, in California. The teams involved included the Oakland Dynamites and a team from Fresno.
On Monday, authorities confirmed that a six-year-old girl had been shot during the occurrence. A man and a woman were also injured; however, all of them are expected to survive.
“As staff at OD we try to create a fun festive environment for our children to play football and cheer. We can’t control these knuckleheads, but we can improve and try to take better security measures at the field. Unfortunately, this was some street beef that spilled out onto the football field,” a letter to parents and the neighborhood noted.
Video footage of the incident shows what occured after the shooting. Police say that it seems as though a disagreement took place in the stands and resulted in gunfire.
500 people were said to have been at the youth football game where more people could have been wounded.
“This is not a Dynamite problem, this is an Oakland problem,” said the Oakland Dynamites when talking about the many acts of violence that occurs in the city.
Although authorities believe that more than one person was shooting, no one has been taken into custody.
A $15,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information about the assailant(s).
