Authorities in Birmingham, Alabama, have apprehended six people in relation to the killing of a 20-year-old woman.
Her going missing may have been a result of a kidnapping after her mother had posted a video on social media saying that her daughter had texted the family, crying out for assistance. She had said that she was being held captive and to send authorities as she shared her location.
The matter started as a missing person’s case, on Sunday, but prior to her relatives and friends being able to look for her, the case turned into a homicide.
In the early hours on Monday, Jackson’s body was found under a mattress in an illegal dumping location. She had sustained at least one gunshot wound.
Now, three women and three men have been detained. None of the suspects have been formally charged as of yet.
When police arrived to the Serenity Apartments on Monday, where Jackson disclosed she was being held, a 26-year-old woman was taken into custody. She was discovered inside of an apartment broke into, close to her own apartment, in the same complex.
The woman and Jackson had known each other and relatives say that the two had problems before the killing.
Two other women, both 23, and three men, two of which are 25 and one 18, have been placed in the Birmingham City Jail.
Mahogany Jackson now leaves behind a young child.
An investigation is continuing.
