An investigation into the death of a mother and her young twins has begun.

On Friday, authorities in Seminole County, Florida, received information about a motorist who was stopped on the SR-417 bridge.

A witness had stated that it seemed as though a woman had gotten out of the passenger side window of her vehicle and leaped into the St. Johns River.

When authorities arrived to the scene, they found a woman floating in the river.

The victim has been named as 31-year-old Catorreia Hutto.

After learning that Hutto had 5-year-old twins, police traveled to Hutto’s residence. There, they found the twins, Ava and Ahmed deceased. Authorities also discovered a firearm with live rounds lying on the floor in a bedroom.

The incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide.

Documents note that there wasn’t much food or furniture in Hutto’s home, showing signs that there may have been some financial issues.

Hutto’s mother added that her daughter had battled with depression for years, but there were no signs that she would have hurt her children or herself.
