4-Year-Old Texas Boy Dead From Starvation After Being Forced To Drink Hand Sanitizer And Beg For Food
Documents note the details surrounding a child abuse case that police believe caused the death of a 4-year-old boy in San Antonio.
A cell phone recording shows the child pleading for bread and water. He died in August 2021.
On Thursday, the child’s father, Brandon Cervera, 28, was apprehended and charged with injury to a child.
On August 17, Benjamin was taken to a hospital as he was unresponsive. Police were alerted when hospital staff saw that the child had bruises that were in different stages of healing throughout his body.
While investigating, police received cell phone footage from a relative. The child was seen begging for bread and water and eating crumbs off the floor. Additionally, one time, he was forced to drink hand sanitizer.
When investigators looked through the family’s residence, they discovered locks on the refrigerator, cabinets, pantry, and Benjamin’s bedroom. A mattress filled with urine was the only piece of furniture inside of it.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s report concluded that Benjamin died of starvation after analyzing his malnourished and underweight body.
Authorities do believe that someone else is involved in the boy’s abuse, but Cervera is the only person that has been taken into custody, right now. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.
