On Tuesday, a new government report stated that Americans quit their jobs at record-breaking numbers in the month of August. Restaurant and hotel workers led the pack.
As many as 4.3 million people left their place of employment that month. That is the most on record going back to December 2020 and 300,000 more than in July. The resignations in August account for 3% of the workforce in the US.
In addition to this, hiring in August also fell. This went from 6.8 million, in July, to 6.3 million even though there are an enormous amounts of jobs available.
Resignations in August at restaurants, bars, and hotels rose by 21% compared to July with a total of 900,000. Furthermore, retailers saw a 6% rise in resignations in August.
On the other hand, manufacturing, construction, transportation, and warehouse job quits really didn’t rise.
In most jobs where people can work from home such as architecture and business services, resigning was hugely flat.
