31-year-old Pedro Martinez is facing a murder charge after he is said to have sold fentanyl to his colleague, who then overdosed on the drug, the City of Denton has said.
On January 21, officers answered a call to the 500 block of Inman Street about a report of an unconscious person, later known to be 26-year-old Dylan King.
King was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that King’s cause of death was a mix between cocaine and fentanyl toxicity.
As the Denton PD was investigating, they found that King had received the drugs with the fentanyl from his coworker, Martinez.
When Martinez was questioned in the Denton County Jail, as he was there on an unrelated charge, he is said to have disclosed that he sold the drugs to King, and he was aware that it contained fentanyl.
Investigators obtained a warrant for the charge of murder for Martinez on June 18.
Since September 1, 2023, when a new state law was implemented, there have been 5 fentanyl murder charges in Denton.
Martinez is still in custody at the Denton County Jail, but no bond has been set at this time.
