Americans could be looking forward to a $2000 stimulus check real soon since the win in Georgia giving Democrats control of the Senate.
President Elect Joe Biden says he is working on a multi trillion dollar relief package that could help aid Americans and extend unemployment benefits.
The funds would also go towards schools, improving vaccination distribution and assisting small businesses.
If Democrats do proceed with $2,000 checks, they might have to pass the package through a Senate procedure called “budget reconciliation”. Doing so would bypass Republicans ability to block the package through a filibuster. Senate Democrats could include extending pandemic unemployment benefits beyond their looming March 2021 expiration as well.
Democrats will control the 50-50 split Senate with Vice President elect Kamala Harris’s tie breaking vote.
