Twenty ex-inmates were celebrated during a graduation ceremony after receiving new construction training.
The former inmates were a part of a re-entry program for people looking to change their lives with new careers, making money with legitimate work.
The graduation ceremony took place at the Bill J. Priest Training Center on Corinth St. This is close to the Dallas County Jail where the graduates had once been held.
Marian Brown, the Dallas County Sheriff, told the graduates that there will be times when they will have difficulty trying not to return to their past behaviors. Brown, who manages the jail, is aware that many inmates return to the streets and quickly go back to jail.
Good careers are awaiting skilled workers who stay on the right track as the Regional Black Contractors Association assisted with the trainings.
Each graduate received a federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-hour training certification. They also received a National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certification.
Additionally, the graduates attended Dallas College for training.
