A 2-year-old girl is dead after her father removed her from daycare and eventually lead authorities on a chase, resulting in her fatal injuries.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, 25-year-old Deontray Flanagan arrived at his daughter’s daycare around 10 a.m. Monday and took her out. He then went to the mother’s job and threatened to hurt their daughter if she didn’t give him her phone.

Authorities say he then hit her in the face multiple times before taking off with her phone and the 2-year-old girl.

After successfully being able to track Flanagan’s location by pinging the mother’s phone, officials located his vehicle near Greens Road and North Freeway and a chase ensued.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the chase, with it not coming to an end for miles. Flanagan eventually came to a stop near a church on FM 1960 but refused to exit the vehicle.

With the 2-year-old still in the vehicle, negotiators were called to the scene to de-escalate the situation. Shortly after making contact with Flanagan, authorities were able to determine the little girl was unresponsive.

Flanagan eventually surrendered and CPR was immediately given to the girl while they waited for Life Flight to arrive and transport her to the hospital.

The 2-year-old, who had trauma to her body, succumbed to her injuries shortly after and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Authorities say they believe the girl sustained injuries from being thrown around in the car during the chase.

Flanagan, who was currently on probation for driving a car into someone’s house in 2018, had also previously served time for an assault causing bodily injury to a family member charge.

He was arrested and taken to the Harris County Jail where he faces charges of murder.
