According to a study published in Scientific Reports, two new species of dinosaurs were found in China’s northwest region while scientist were analyzing fossils.

The finding concluded that two of the specimens were from previously unknown species.
Scientist believe the species lives about 120 to 130 million years ago during the early Cretaceous period.

Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Museum of Brazil named the two species Silutitan sinensis and Hamititan xinjiangensis(or “silu” which is Mandarin for “Silk Road”) and Hamititan xinjiangensis (named for where the fossil specimen was found in Xinjiang).

Silutitan sinensis is a new species of sauropod. It is a plant eating dinosaur that was estimated to be over 65ft long. It said that the dinosaur was found to have some characteristics in its neck vertebrae that indicate it belonged to a family of sauropods called Euhelopodidae.

The Hamititan specimen was estimated to be over 55ft long and have similar characteristics to the sauropods found in South America.

Both names have the word “titan” in them due to their enormous size and are a part of the sauropod family, which are known to be the largest animals to ever walk this earth.

The dinosaurs are almost as big as blue whales which are estimated to be between 75 to 98 feet long.
