18-year-old Jakayla Williams, of Dotham, Alabama, is facing a murder charge after throwing her newborn in a dumpster that had a trash compactor.
Detectives apprehended Williams on Thursday afternoon after discovering the baby deceased in a landfill. However, they do believe that the infant was still alive when thrown away.
The Dotham police chief noted that Williams had told family members that she delivered the baby in August and took it to Southeast Health Medical Center.
The chief added that relatives believed that her story was questionable, and hospital surveillance recordings show that Williams never took the baby boy to the hospital.
Later, Williams confessed to authorities that she threw the infant away because she didn’t want a child.
It isn’t known if Williams will face the death penalty.
