17-Year-Old Faces Intoxication Manslaughter Charge After A Wreck That Killed A Family Near Cleburne
A 17-year-old driver has been charged with multiple offenses, including intoxication manslaughter. This comes after he struck a minivan head-on, in Johnson County, Texas. It resulted in the death of a Georgia family.
The wreck occurred on December 23, 2023, on US Highway 67, close to County Road 1119.
Luke Resecker, 17, from Glen Rose, had been operating a Chevy Silverado and had gone into oncoming traffic. He then drove into a “no passing” location, striking a Honda Odyssey head-on.
There were seven individuals inside the van, and six of them were killed.
43-year-old Lokesh Potabathula was inside of the Odyssey and survived. Records show that he suffered multiple wounds and has not begun moving again in his lower extremity areas.
Potabathula’s wife, Naveena, their 10-year-old son, Kruthik, and their 9-year-old daughter, Nishidha, all died in the crash.
His cousin, Rushil Barri, 28, and his wife’s parents, Nageswararao Ponnada, 64 and Sitamahalakhmi Ponnada, 60, were also killed.
The family had just moved from Alpharetta, Georgia, to Plano, and had been in North Texas during the holiday break.
Barri had been residing and working in Irving after moving to the U.S. from India to attend graduate school.
A 17-year-old who had been in the Silverado was also critically wounded in the wreck.
Arrest documents show that Preston Glass, 17, who is also from Glen Rose, experienced multiple wounds to the head. This led to him being mentally impaired.
Resecker faces six counts of intoxication manslaughter, two counts of intoxication assault, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana.
Blood tests perform revealed that Resecker had THC in his system when the wreck had occurred.
His bond was placed at $50,000, and he was ordered to home confinement.
Because of a continuing medical condition, Resecker couldn’t be placed in the Johnson County Jail.
He was later freed after posting bond.
