Demarion Tackett has been located by US Marshals after being on the run for several weeks. He is the primary suspect in the murder of John Materna in 2023.

16-year-old Tackett had been avoiding authorities since June 24th after he didn’t show up to a court appearance.

On Monday, close to noon, Tackett was found at a home on Edgar Street in Memphis, TN. He attempted to run out the back door but surrendered once he was surrounded by officers.

Authorities say that Materna, known as the “Watermelon Man,” was shot and killed in May 2023. This came after two men in a silver Infiniti tried to rob him as he was selling watermelons.

In March, Tackett was released on $100,000 bond after he was charged as an adult for his role in the killing.

Tackett is now charged with first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.
