Baytown police are investigating the death of a 15 year old girl found dead at a Baytown Park Tuesday morning.
Officers responded to a call at Tejas Park on the 500 block of Hafer Avenue around 8:15am Tuesday.
Upon arrival officers found the victim, Jania Tatum,15 lying on the ground unresponsive with blood on her chest.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. It is still unclear how the teen died. Authorities have no suspect(s) at this time.
Tatum’s mother Angie says she last saw her daughter Monday night around 11pm, before she went to bed.
Jania was a sophomore at Sterling High School in Goose Creek CISD where she ran track and cross country.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help her family with the funeral expenses.
On Monday at 4:30 p.m., the teen’s family and friends will hold a balloon release in her honor. Her funeral is set for Saturday, Jan. 8 at 1 p.m. at Word of Faith Family Christian Center.
