On Wednesday, authorities said that a 12-year-old girl died from a self-inflicted injury after shooting her father. It was said to be a part of a plan to kill her family.
The incident occurred on September 20, in Parker County, Texas.
Police had arrived to the scene at 11:30 p.m., and discovered the girl in the road with a gunshot wound to the head and a firearm nearby. Her 38-year-old father was discovered in the home with a gunshot injury to his stomach. Police think that the girl shot her dad and then herself.
The girl succumbed to her injuries on September 22. Her death was ruled a suicide. Police say that the girl’s dad is now out of the hospital, recovering.
While investigating, authorities learned that the girl had been scheming for weeks to kill her parents and pets. She had also been discussing the plan with another 12-year-old in Lufkin, Texas.
Deputies say that the 12-year-old girl in Lufkin was also going to kill her father but decided not to. The two girls were going to run away to Georgia after the killings.
Last week, the 12-year-old in Lufkin was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
The identities of those involved haven’t been released, and an investigation is continuing.
