12-Year-Old Girl Charged With Murder, Smothered Her 8-Year-Old Cousin After Arguing Over An iPhone

A 12-year-old girl is said to have killed her 8-year-old cousin as the younger child was asleep.

According to ABCNews, the 12-year-old, from Humboldt, Tennessee, is facing a murder charge. She is accused of smothering her cousin, Demeria Hollingsworth, after the two had argued over an iPhone after they had returned from an out of town trip with their grandmother, a family member reported.

Footage from inside the home on July 15 captured the killing inside of a bedroom. It depicted the older child with bedding to suffer the 8-year-old while the younger child was sleep on the top bunk. When the younger child had passed away, her older cousin wiped her up and adjusted her body.

The 12-year-old is now facing charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Prosecutors will seek to try her as an adult as she will turn 13 in a few weeks.
