A Dallas man was sentenced to 10 years in a Mississippi Correctional Facility after a deputy found over 10,000 counterfeit fentanyl pills during a traffic stop.

A Deputy with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department pulled over a Chevrolet Tahoe for a traffic violation on April 25, 2022. During the traffic stop, the deputy noticed the panel of the passenger seat was taken off and there were two large packages wrapped in electrical tape.

An inspection of the vehicle then turned up more than 10,000 counterfeit fentanyl pills. The pills would eventually come back positive for oxycodone and fentanyl. The driver of the vehicle, Carlos Martinez from Dallas, was arrested and charged with trafficking fentanyl.

In addition to the 28-year-old driver, a woman and a child were also in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Martinez pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years without the possibility of parole.
