10-Year-Old Boy Who Killed Mom Requests To Pay Bail With Piggy Bank Savings

After being accused of shooting and killing his mother over a virtual reality headset, a 10-year-old boy has been charged as an adult.

On Wednesday, the boy, from Wisconsin, appeared in court for the first time, wearing detention center clothing. He held his head down throughout most of the proceedings.

He has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide. This comes after he was accused of shooting his mother in the face because she wouldn’t purchase a virtual reality headset for him.

Next month, it will be determined if a charge of reckless homicide will be dismissed. The boy’s lawyer stated that the charge was redundant.

Additionally, they have requested that his bail be lowered to $100 since it’s the only funds that the boy has.

“We have spoken to him about his ability to post anything. He told us about piggy banks with savings that he had from gifts, from birthday gifts. And scavenging through cushions in the couch that he’s been able to save up,” the child’s lawyer noted.

However, the judge decided against lowering the bail, keeping it at $50,000.

If the boy can’t post bail, he might stay in custody now and for the remainder of his life. This is if he is found guilty of intentional homicide.

The boy will appear in court again on January 19.
