On Tuesday, police, soldiers, and gunmen were involved in a shootout in central Mexico. It resulted in the death of 10 suspects and four suspects being wounded.
Authorities added that three detectives also experienced non-life threatening injuries during the gun battle.
The shooting began in Texcaltitlan, 80 miles southwest of Mexico City, when the suspects started shooting at police. Authorities were said to have been in the process of arresting members of the LA Familia Michoacana drug gang when the violence began.
Officials say that investigators seized 20 rifles, pistols, military-style uniforms, and bulletproof vests at the location. The area has been the location of many murders and extortion by drug cartels.
Seven armed been were taken into police custody during the incident.
“We recognize and are proud of the actions carried out by our colleagues against criminal groups in the whole state of Mexico,” stated the prosecutor’s office.
