An Ohio mother has been charged with her sons death after firefighters find him dead inside an apartment earlier this week.
Officers responded to an apartment complex on the 1800 block of James H. McGee Blvd Tuesday after receiving a call from a neighbor, who said there was a “bad smell” coming from one of the residences.
Once Dayton police arrived they requested help from the Dayton FD to get inside the apartment.
Once firefighters were inside they located a 1 year old boy deceased.
Police located the mother Wanisha Smith,33 and she told authorities during an interview that she intentionally hurt the child by bumping his head into a chair making him unconscious and that she did not try to seek medical attention for the child.
Smith was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and child endangering.
She made her first court appearance Friday and entered a plea of not guilty and was given a bond of $1 million.
Court records show that the toddler had been left in the apartment since May 16.
