A one-year-old child was found crawling along a road in Louisiana, following his 4-year-old brother being found dead on Monday, authorities in Calcasieu Parish said.
The discovery started when police found the lifeless body of the 4-year-old boy in a lake, close to an Interstate 10 welcome center, near the Texas state line.
Although the weather was rainy, the 1-year-old survived. A truck driver had observed the child and called 911. When first responders arrived to the location, the child was found with multiple bug bites but was unharmed and seemed to be in good condition.
The boys had last been seen with their mother, Aaliyah Jack, 25, on Saturday. A warrant for her arrest was issued and she was apprehended in Meridian, Mississippi, over 350 miles from where her children were found.
Jack’s bond was set at $300,000 as she faces a charge of failure to report a missing child after being extradited back to Louisiana. More charges are expected.
An autopsy report will determine the 4-year-old’s cause of death.
An investigation is continuing.
