A high school senior, in Atlanta, Georgia, has been given 49 acceptance letters to various colleges. She’s also been awarded $1.3 million in scholarships.

18-year-old Makenzie Thompson hadn’t set out to fill out 50 college applications. However, after going to college fairs and being given free waivers, she applied to 51 schools.

“It is a very, very good experience, just to see your hardwork paying off. And getting to see them pile up in a folder,” she said.

Thompson is a member of the National Honor Society and president of her senior class. She is the co-captain of her dance team and vice-president of the Beta club. She also serves as a member of the honor society of dance and arts, and she is a varsity basketball manager.

Thompson states that time management has allowed her to succeed thus far.

“Without time management and knowing how to multitask, I wouldn’t have been able to do anything.”

Although she had many options to choose from, Thompson has decided that she will attend Tuskegee University to further her education. Because the HBCU, located in Alabama, is known for its strong veterinarian program, she says its the best option for her.

Thompson looks forward to developing as she enters a new phase in her life.

“I’m excited for a new environment, fresh start, fresh people,” she said.
