An investigation is underway after a kidnapping suspect was fatally shot by a Rockwall police officer Thursday night.
The incident started around 7 p.m. when Fort Worth police called and asked Rockwall police to conduct a welfare check. They then informed them that they believed the person from the welfare check was possibly involved in a kidnapping.
Shorty after, Rockwall authorities received a call from Dallas regarding a stabbing in Dallas involving the kidnapping of a woman and kids.
It was confirmed that the Fort Worth and Dallas incident were involving the same person.
Rockwall officers located the suspect outside of a residence near Rockwall Pkwy and Summerhill Drive.
While trying to make contact with the suspect he opened fire at the officers. An officer returned fire striking the suspect. No officers were injured.
He was then transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The kidnapping victims were found safe in a nearby city.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the officer involved shooting.
