Dallas SWAT Find Suspect Unresponsive Inside Attic After Deploying Tear Gas; In Custody Death Investigation Underway

The Dallas Police Department Special Investigations Unit are investigating after a man died while in custody.

The incident occurred on August 17 when the Dallas Police Auto Theft and Gang Unit responded to a call regarding stolen vehicles on the 200 block of Starr Street.

When they arrived they found located two stolen cars in the backyard being sold for parts. They then tried knocking on the door to contact the suspect, who then locked the door on them.

Officers then contacted SWAT, who responded and obtained a search warrant for the home. The home was evacuated, and officers were notified that the suspect, 53 year old Paul Ramos, was hiding in the attic.

After a few hours of trying to make contact with the suspect and getting no response, SWAT deployed tear gas into the home.

SWAT then cut a hole into the roof of the home and found Ramos unresponsive inside. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Dallas Police Department SIU responded and is investigating this in custody death.
