62-year-old Volney Woods has been convicted of murder in a case regarding a vacant lot. Woods, who resided close to the lot in question, thought that it was his property. This was although several sales to new owners occurred between 2002 and 2021.

The problem began when the latest lot owner employed Emily Antram to put down concrete on the property. On the day of the occurrence, Woods confronted Antram and three other workers on the lot, shooting Antram four times in the back, killing her. Woods had on a black ski mask during the incident, making it hard to identify him. However, detectives recovered a rust-damaged firearm from a puddle that was close by.

When he was apprehended and questioned, Woods made incriminating comments in connection to the continuous land disputes and the nature of the firearm used in the offense. A box of .38 caliber ammunition discovered in his home was presented by prosecutors as evidence in the case.

After all the evidence was presented, including Wood’s recorded comments while he was questioned, the jury convicted him of murder. On June 4, 2024, Woods was given a 30-year sentence in prison.
