At least 8 people have died and hundreds injured during a popular Travis Scott Astroworld music festival at NRG park.
The incident happened Friday night in Houston shortly after 9pm during a sold out concert with Travis Scott performing.
Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña said, a crowd of nearly 50,000 people started to rush towards the front of the stage.
“That caused some panic, and it started causing some injuries, people began to fall out, become unconscious, and it created additional panic.”
Once the organizers Travis Scott and Live Nation got wind of the incident they shut the concert down.
It is believed that someone in the crowd was injecting people with some sort of drug, which caused panic and then a surge.
Investigators are working to see if those that went into cardiac arrest are the ones that were injected.
At this time at least 8 have been pronounced dead and 17 hospitalized. One of those dead is 10 years old.
11 of those 17 were for cardiac arrest.
Over 300 people were treated at a field hospital for minor injuries.
The causes of death will be determined by the medical examiner. Meanwhile, authorities are working to identify all the victims.
Houston Police Chief Troy Finner urged people not to speculate about what happened but said the incident is under investigation.
Sources believe this may have been a targeted attack.
