A Dallas man is currently held in the Smith County Jail after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase on Friday.
Zechariah Roberts faces multiple charges, including unauthorized use of a stolen vehicle, evading arrest, possession of marijuana, and reckless driving stemming from his capture.
According to a statement from the Smith County Pct. 5 Constable’s Office, Roberts led several agencies in a pursuit along U.S. 69 into Tyler. The incident began at approximately 2:44 p.m. in Swan when a deputy spotted a Toyota reported stolen from Dallas traveling toward Tyler on U.S. 69.
The vehicle attempted to escape from the deputy but ultimately crashed at the intersection of U.S. 69 and North Loop 323 in Tyler.
The pursuit involved the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, Texas DPS, and the Tyler Police Department.
Roberts was identified as the driver and taken into custody at the scene.
