Remembering Aaliyah: Mattel Honors the R&B Legend with the Release of the Barbie Music Series Aaliyah Doll
On January 16, 2025, to celebrate what would have been Aaliyah’s 46th birthday, Barbie introduced a new doll in her memory.
The doll, named Barbie Music Series Aaliyah Doll, was priced at $55 and became available on Mattel Creations’ official website.
The launch of the doll was announced on December 14 through an Instagram fan page dedicated to Aaliyah, which featured a doll designed to resemble her expressions. The caption pointed out that the release date coincided with Aaliyah’s birthday.
To create a Barbie doll that captures the spirit of the late R&B legend, Mattel collaborated closely with Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton, and her stylist, Derek Lee.
Aaliyah tragically lost her life in a plane crash in the Bahamas in 2001, along with her hairdresser, bodyguard, and record executive.
