On November 12, 2024, at around 2:30 PM, staff at Horn High School and the Mesquite Police Department were alerted to an aggravated sexual assault that occurred on campus.
The investigation determined that a male suspect, who is not affiliated with the school, unlawfully entered the premises. It was found that a student from Horn High School had opened an exterior door, allowing the suspect to enter and bypassing standard entry protocols.
Once inside, the suspect confronted the victim, with whom he had previously been in a dating relationship. He used a knife and forced her in the restroom, where the sexual assault took place. After the incident, a teacher spotted the suspect and attempted to identify him, but he fled the scene.
Authorities identified the suspect as Synniaz Elijah, a 19-year-old male resident of Seagoville, Texas. At approximately 9:45 PM on the same day, the Mesquite Police Department executed a search warrant at his residence, where he was located and arrested. Elijah has been charged with aggravated sexual assault.
The investigation is still active and ongoing.
