A suspect died following a police chase led by Rockwall County Sheriff’s Deputies on FM 548.
On September 30, law enforcement attempted to pull over a vehicle with an obscured paper tag, but the driver refused to stop.
During the pursuit, the driver entered a neighborhood, and a passenger in the fleeing vehicle fired several rounds at a Rockwall County Sheriff’s Deputy. The suspect struck the rear bumper of a deputy’s vehicle during the incident.
Deputies continued the pursuit northbound on FM 548. The passenger exited the moving car near State Highway 276, while the driver continued to evade capture for approximately five miles before crashing at the intersection of FM 548 and Interstate 30.
When officers approached the car, they found that the suspect was unresponsive and he did not exit the vehicle. Medical assistance was provided at the scene, and he was transported to a hospital where he later died.
The injured passenger was located by paramedics and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Authorities discovered cash and a weapon inside the vehicle, but no additional information about the suspects has been released.
