A newly hired Dollar General employee was verbally and physically assaulted by a man over ice.
Michelle Renee Abney worked at a Dollar General in Laurel, Mississippi for three weeks without receiving proper training and faced difficulties with management.
On July 12th, a manager gave Abney three sets of keys and instructed her to open the ice box so a man, Desmond Pollard, could get ice.
Due to her lack of training, Abney was unable to unlock the ice box. Pollard grew frustrated and began verbally abusing Abney. The incident escalated when Pollard pushed her.
Abney attempted to defend herself, but Pollard, wearing steel toe boots, pushed her to the ground and kicked her repeatedly.
Managers, coworkers, and employees watched the incident without attempting to call the police. Abney called the police herself.
Abney states she will pursue this matter legally to obtain justice.
