On July 9, around 11:30 p.m., Mesquite police responded to a shooting call on the 3400 block of N. Town East Blvd. Upon arrival they found 18 year old Kavontae Slate suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Mesquite Fire arrived and transported Slate to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
During the investigation authorities learned that 20 year old Omarey Marshall, of Rowlett, was responsible for the shooting.
On July 10 Mesquite PD Tactical Team and Major Crime Investigators executed a search warrant and arrested Marshall at his home.
Marshall has been charged with capital murder.
