In August 2022, Detective John Dickey, Jared Jacks, and Justin Guy, who work for the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, learned of a fuel theft that happened at Harvey’s Exxon, located in Kemp, Texas. After doing surveillance footage, detectives were able to identify some of the people that were involved in the offense.
One of the suspects was identified as Duniesky Gonzalez, thought to be the ringleader.
As the investigation ensued, detectives learned that the fuel thefts were taking place throughout 9 various counties and 15 different agencies. With the assistance of the Texas FCIC and Texas Comptroller, and other law enforcement agencies, eight suspects were apprehended and charged. However, some are still being sought.
In April 2024, Gonzalez pled guilty to Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity.
On June 18, 2024, a sentencing hearing took place. Gonzalez was facing five years in prison. After all the evidence was presented in court, Gonzalez was given a 50-year prison sentence.
Later this year, the other suspects will go to trial.
