Authorities in Houston are searching for the person or persons involved, following the body of a 12-year-old girl being discovered in a creek on Monday.
Police say that the girl was found at about 6a.m. in the 400 block of West Rankin Road. This came after someone contacted authorities and stated that they saw a body in a bayou.
Dive teams were summoned to the scene to recover the body of the 12-year-old girl from the shallow water.
Police stated that the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office is doing an investigation to figure out what happened to the child.
Authorities state that they think that the 12-year-old girl snuck out of an apartment complex, close to Rankin Road sometime after 10 p.m. on Sunday.
They added that relatives were not aware that she was leaving the home and that she was not reported missing.
Surveillance footage from the location has been obtained and is being reviewed at this time.
