Bling Bishop Lamor Miller-Whitehead, of Brooklyn, was sentenced to nine years in prison by a judge Monday.
Miller-Whitehead was convicted of wire fraud, attempted extortion and making false statements to federal law enforcement agencies back in March.
Miller-Whitehead,46 was a bishop at Leaders of Tomorrow International Ministries church in Canarsie. He scammed $90,000 from one of his parishioners and promised to help buy her a home. According to prosecutors he spent the money on luxury goods and never paid the woman back or helped her buy a home.
He then turned around and extorted $5000 from a businessman and tried to get him to lend him $500,000 for real estate homes. He even promised him favors from mayor Eric Adams.
Prosecutors also stated that Miller-Whitehead applied for a $250,000 business loan using fraudulent bank statements.
Miller-Whitehead was also sentenced to three years of supervised released and ordered to pay $85,000 in restitution and forfeit $95,000.
His attorney Dawn Florio said in a statement that her client was innocent.
“As today’s sentencing was not what we had hoped for, we are deeply saddened by the outcome. Despite this setback, we remain steadfast in our belief in Bishop Lamor Miller Whitehead’s innocence and are committed to continuing the fight.
We will explore all available legal avenues to ensure that justice is served. Our dedication to proving Bishop Whitehead’s innocence is unwavering, and we will immediately begin the appeal process.”
The pastor made headlines back in 2022 when armed men robbed him and his wife for $1 million worth of jewelry during a live-streaming.
