A 14-year-old boy in Jackson, Mississippi, has been taken into custody. This is after he was captured on recording carjacking a family.
Jamontae Latrell Kelly has been charged with armed carjacking and six counts of aggravated assault. His bond was placed at $1.75 million.
On Friday, May 24, at about 8 pm, the incident had occurred.
Heather Allen reported that her family had been going to North Mississippi to see other relatives when the incident took place outside her residence. She stated that two suspects had come up to their car and had pointed a gun towards them.
“They kind of do a U-turn, come walking up. You know, they say something, and I can’t recall what they say. But they start shooting at me, and my son is on the outside of the car. They’re like. ‘Give, Give me the keys. Give me the keys.’ And they yanked and pulled my daughter out of the car. And I stood up, and I saw them,” Allen added.
She also stated that her car was located 40 minutes following the carjacking, on a street close by.
On Wednesday May 29, the 14-year-old was brought to the Copiah County Sheriff’s Office by his parents. This was after the media had covered the incident.
Allen is grateful that her children and grandchildren were unharmed, and she is now in the process of relocating.
