A 15-year-old boy fatally shot his 31-year-old cousin in, Nashville, Tennessee, during a birthday party last week.
The incident occurred on Youngs Lane, at a short- term rental, on Thursday evening.
Authorities say that Darren Fleming, 15, who had already been on Juvenile Court probation, had attended the party. His mother wanted him to return home at 8 p.m. to ensure that he followed the guidelines of his probation.
When Barrington Moore, Fleming’s cousin, went to pick him up, he discovered him hiding in a closet. The pair tussled, and that’s when Fleming says he fired his weapon. Moore died at a medical facility.
“It’s scary. People always say it can happen anywhere… so it happening that close to where I live, it’s a little scary,” said one neighbor.
“It’s sad. It’s a young kid whose life’s changed forever, a man whose life is lost… all the people that were at that party, their lives… all the people that live here, our lives were affected. It affects so many people,” he added.
Fleming has now been charged with criminal homicide and was placed in a juvenile detention center.
