Fatal Shooting Outside Dallas Library Occurred After Teen Allegedly Used Fake Money To Purchase Gun
Court documents show that a deadly shootout outside of a Dallas Library resulted from an attempt to purchase an AR-15.
On Dec. 30, two 15-year-olds, Angel Solis and Elijah Martinez, were fatally shot outside the Mountain Creek Branch Library.
On Friday, 17-year-old Obbie Perez was apprehended and charged with capital murder in relation to the shooting.
Arrest records show that Perez transported Martinez to the library to meet Solis and purchase an AR-15.
Solis provided Martinez with the rifle in a duffle bag, and then Martinez gave Solis fake money, detectives say.
The two 15-year-olds started shooting at each other, and both were struck, records show.
The affidavit states that Perez then hid a Glock 9mm pistol with an unlawful Glock switch in the bushes prior to calling authorities.
When first responders arrived on the scene, Perez handed over a different handgun. He was then taken in to be questioned as a witness.
In the beginning, Perez told authorities that he didn’t know what was going on. However, he eventually confessed to detectives that he was aware that Martinez planned to give Solis fake money for the gun and then attempt to rob him. He also is said to have admitted that he hid the Glock in the bushes.
Perez was placed in the Dallas County Jail on $2,000,000 bond.
