The Oxford High School shooter has been given a life sentence in prison without the chance of parole.
On Friday, Michigan teen Ethan Crumbley, 17, was at a hearing where he listened to impact statements. These came from over 12 people, including students, teachers, and parents.
“The court cannot ignore the deep trauma the defendant caused the state of Michigan. But, in particular, the Oxford community. The court simply cannot ignore that. He chose not to die on that day, because he wanted notoriety,” stated Judge Kwame Rowe.
The shooter also gave brief remarks prior to being sentenced.
“All I want is for the people I hurt to just have a final sense of culpability that justice had somewhat been served. Any sentence that they ask for, I ask that you impose it on me because I want them to be happy. I want them to feel secure and safe. I don’t want them to worry another day. Because I really am sorry for what I’ve done, what I’ve taken from them,” Crumbley stated.
In 2022, the shooter pled guilty to multiple murder and terrorism charges. But because of his parents’ trial and his age being a factor, he had still been in custody for over a year prior to receiving his sentence.
The teen had brought a gun to school; however, his backpack was never checked. This was although his parents had been called to a meeting that very day about violent drawings that their son had created.
The judge had noted that the killings were planned ahead of time. Some victims had been shot at point-blank range in a bathroom while others looked on.
The incident occured in Oxford Township, 40 miles outside of Detroit. Four students were killed, six others were injured, a teacher was hurt, as well.
Documents note that the teen’s actions in class, including watching a shooting video and gun ammunition on his phone, should have been a red flag, considering him as a “potential threat of violence.”
His parents should stand to face life in prison too!! They knew what hes was planning to do and they’re the dumb asses that bought the gun..
