A grandmother has been taken into custody after purposely shooting her six-month-old grandchild in the head, critically wounding her on Saturday.
Authorities say that the woman shot her grandchild in the face and eye.
Around 1:50 a.m., 43-year-old Mia Harris quickly left the location in the 6800 block of Dutchview Court, in Libertytownship, Ohio. However, she was later taken into custody after she was pulled over on an interstate nearby.
The baby was transported to a medical facility and then airlifted to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She has had to have two surgeries and was in critical condition as of Saturday night.
Bystanders had informed authorities that Harris was the assailant. She had shot at relatives during an argument and fight prior to purposely shooting the baby.
“She shot and missed her daughter, I believe. Then, they moved the daughter from one room to the other and then she went and shot this child and doesn’t appear to have any remorse whatsoever,” stated a sheriff’s officer.
Harris is now in the Butler County Jail and has been charged with three counts of felonious assault.
She is set to appear in court on Monday.
