On October 20, Jennifer Flewellen shocked her community for a seond time at her 18-year-old son’s game as she sat on the sidelines. This comes 15 months after the mother of three woke up from a 5-year long coma.
“Nobody expected her to wake up. We were told all along that she has anoxia and that the brain damage, she’ll never wake up. But, you never say never,” Jennifer’s mom stated.
The 41-year-old had experienced life-threatening wounds after being in a car wreck in September 2017. She had swerved across a road and struck a utility pole.
Jennifer was discovered unresponsive at the scene and stayed in a coma for 4 years and 11 months, leading physicians to call her recovery a “miracle.”
Those in the community have waited a long time for Flewellen to get back to the sidelines of the field. She was known a mother who always cheered the loudest at her son’s games. Her mother says that Jennifer has put her sons in football to keep them out of trouble.
Because she was in a coma, Jennifer didn’t attend the senior nights of her two oldest sons. However, she was elated to be at the game recently for her youngest son where he scored the first touchdown in honor of his mother.
Since July, Jennifer has been residing at home, 11 months after she surprisingly woke up from her coma.
Her retired mother is working diligently with her in hopes that she will now be able to walk again.
