Sgt. Garrett W. Hardin, a Harris County, Texas, deputy, has been charged with murder for a shooting that occurred in 2022. On Thursday, Hardin was indicted by a grand jury.
On July 8, 2022, the shooting happened after Hardin answered to a shoplifting call. A month after that, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office released the body cam recording.
When they reviewed the recording, 47-year-old Roderick Vankeith Brooks’s family called his killing an execution.
His relatives added that Brooks had been stealing shampoo prior to the fatal shooting.
“Shoplifting does not warrant to kill a man…,” stated Brooks’s sister, Demetrius Brooks-Glaze.
Since his indictment, Brooks has been relieved of his duties.
Hardin had said that Brooks grabbed his Taser as they were tussling. His attorney stated that Hardin had no other option but to shoot Brooks.
The Brooks family has filed a civil lawsuit which will be carried out as the criminal case ensues.
If Hardin is found guilty, he could receive 5 years to 99 years or life in prison.
So sick of these cops being the judge and executioner on site without a thought in mind! Especially when the suspect is BLACK OR BROWN!
