On October 7, 2023, a stolen truck pursuit resulted in a fatal hit-and-run, leading Dallas Police to arrest the suspect without incident.
Close to 3:40 p.m., police answered to a call in connection to a robbery in progress, close to Skillman Street and westbound LBJ Service Drive.
When then got to the location, authorities found 40-year-old Eric Ortiz who had been struck by a vehicle next to the intersection of Skillman and Leisure.
Ortiz was quickly transported to a medical facility where he died from his wounds.
Initial reports indicate that Ortiz and a witness had been going after a stolen truck when Ortiz was hit by the vehicle.
The suspect, Michael Perez, 23, was pulled over and arrested after a short pursuit.
Perez has been charged with Capital Murder and is being held in the Dallas County Jail.
An investigation is continuing.
