Governor Greg Abbott held a ceremonial signing in Denton, Monday for a law that will make transgender college athletes in Texas compete in sports based on their gender at birth.

The ceremonial signing comes after Abbott signed the Senate Bill 15, also known as the ‘Save Women’s Sports Act’, which was initially signed on June 15, 2023.

Senate Bill 15 was created to protect women athletes from unfair competitions and is set to go in effect on September 1, 2023.

The law will also permit people to sue college/universities that allow trans athletes to compete on teams that are not their gender at birth.
