On Sunday, authorities in Detroit stated that an 11-year-old girl was attacked with acid as an incident ensued at a playground.

Deaira Summers had been at the playground at Vernor Elementary School when her cousin and a 12-year-old girl got into a fight.

The mother of the 12-year-old gave her daughter a bottle of acid that she then chunked on the girls. Although Summers wasn’t involved in the physical altercation, she suffered extensive burns on her back, legs, and arms.

As the acid burned her body badly, Summers stripped off her clothes and ran to her residence. Her relatives transported her to a medical facility where she was hospitalized for three days.

The unidentified 12-year-old is facing charges of assault and intent to do bodily harm.

Although Summers was released from the hospital, she still has to wrap her left arm and legs as she recovers.

On Saturday morning, the suspect appeared in court for a hearing where her bond was set at $10,000. She isn’t permitted to have any communication with Summers or any other bystanders.

She will appear in court again on July 18.
