An investigation is underway after a Pittsburg officer, who had never come in contact with drugs outside of the department, died from an overdose.
West Hills Police Sergeant, 40-year-old Michael Beblar, died on June 13. During an investigation into his death, officials found drugs in Beblar’s possession that belonged to evidence cases, both current and past.
The Coroner in Cambria County says, “Mr. Beblar died from a mixed drug toxicity of fentanyl, hydrocodone, and xylazine.”
His manner of death was ruled accidental.
The Pennsylvania State Police have since opened an investigation into the Police Department’s evidence-holding protocol. According to the district attorney, 9 current cases have evidence that has been tampered with and is missing.
It was also found that Beblar never received drugs from any other sources.
