On Tuesday, authorities announced that a 16-year-old boy killed his former girlfriend in the presence of her little brother. This was because she was attempting to break up with him.

Prosecutors think that Jovanni Sirio-Cardona acted on a threat he made to kill Lily Silva-Lopez, 15, when she tried to break up with him four weeks prior to the killing.

A camera recording captured Sirio-Cardona running down a bike path, close to Lily’s trailer park residence, on June 16, at around 3:45 p.m. Right after that, he made entry into her residence through a window, in Greeley, Colorado.

The girl’s brother, 13, told authorities that his sister screamed for him to get out of the home prior to the shooting.

After Sirio-Cardona shot Lily multiple times, her brother saw him with a gun in his hand and blood dripping from his nose. He then observed his sister lying on a hallway floor, wounded.

Police say that as the brother begged for his life, Sirio-Cardona took his cell phone, so he couldn’t call for help. He then continuously asked the younger teen to assist him in moving Lily’s body before taking it back to her bedroom himself.

The 13-year-old boy finally left the home to get help after Sirio-Cardona had left the location.

Records show that Sirio-Cardona told his grandmother that, “I did what I had to do and shot someone,” when questioned about why authorities were looking for him.

It was also documented that Sirio-Cardona had punched Lily in the face six days prior to her killing. Additionally, he was seen watching her house two days before he is said to have killed her.

Sirio-Cardona has been charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, burglary, aggravated robbery, and juvenile possession of a handgun.
