Body Camera Footage Reveals Officers Kicking Down Door To Save Baby From Being Drowned By Mother

Body camera footage shows police officers answering to a residence, in Albion, MI, after a 15-year-old called them on Saturday morning. Over the phone, officers could hear chaos and children begging for help.

Officers could be seen kicking the bathroom door, once inside the home, and retrieving a young child from the bathtub. They then administered life-saving measures in order for the child to start breathing again.

An officer also discovered a 35-year-old woman, keeping a 2-year-old child underwater in the bathtub. The officer took the child, transported her to a living room, and then performed life-saving measures.

The recording depicts police officers administering CPR and patting her on the back. The girl then coughed up water and started to breathe by herself again. She had also sustained stab wounds to her chest and throat.

A 4-year-old boy suffered lacerations. Authorities believe that the two also consumed cleaning liquid.

Two other children, ages 8 and 15, who reside in the home, as well, didn’t seem to have any wounds. The 15-year-old was the one who called for assistance.

The children’s mother was apprehended and transported to a medical facility. It is thought that she consumed cleaning liquid, as well.

The younger children were transported to hospitals and were released on Monday.

Now, officers that responded to the scene are being praised for the swift actions they took in this seemingly mental health crisis incident.

Neighbors have named the mother as Jessica Edwards-Ricks. She has been charged with assault, two counts of assault with intent to murder, and four counts of neglect. She is set to be appear in court on Tuesday.
